History Of The League

The East Devon Lawn Tennis League held its inaugural meeting on Tuesday 12th April 1955. Representatives from Seaton, Woodbury, Phear Park, Sidford, and Budleigh Salterton were present. At the end of the meeting the first rules were adopted and they held their first fixtures meeting.

The summer league has since grown into two divisions in 1969, three in 1982, four in 1985 and from 1999 onwards has run with five divisions.

The winter league started with one division in 1992 added a second in 1993 and a third in 1994. In 2000 the 4th division was added, division five was introduced in 2009 and division six in 2016

The League has run junior sections for many years and has attempted to offer opportunities to juniors wherever it can.
